Giving Back

From time to time, we throw our support behind a community project or worthwhile cause that we feel helps us to create a positive voice for hunting.

Feeding the kids of Pearston, South Africa

As hunters we all know the great benefits that hunting brings to local communities, tourism, and wildlife populations not to mention the health benefits of wild caught, organic, lean protein. This is all true for the people of Pearston, South Africa.

The local hunting outfitter there, Sun Africa Safaris, has been providing the meat from their hunting trips to a local boarding house of up to 60 kids. This is the only substantial source of protein that those children get to eat in a day.

Using hunter dollars from their international clients, Sun Africa Safaris has also committed to providing school supplies to 120 kids in the local primary school there.

Last, but certainly not least, Pierre and Charne from Sun Africa Safaris are sponsoring Shane de Bruin, a 14 year old boy from the town, to go to private boarding school so that he has the opportunity to build a future for himself.

Covid put a huge dent in this funding, with hunters no longer able to travel.

In 2020, we joined with Blood Origins to help keep this project going until hunters could return. We agreed to donate $20 from every new I Am Hunter membership to Sun Africa Safaris project. We also started a GoFundMe page where people could donate directly to the project.

Within just a few short weeks, hunters from around the world had responded, donating enough money to fund the project for a further 12 months. What an awesome outcome, and such a heartwarming project to be part of.

Saving the Tahr in New Zealand

I Am Hunter was started to spread a positive message about hunting in an effort to keep hunting alive for future generations. And that future being threatened right now with the New Zealand government’s plan for tahr.

If you haven’t heard what they are planning, the NZ government has declared war on this iconic species, and plans to eradicate them completely from the landscape. You can read more about those plans here

In July 2020, we donated $20 from every new membership to the New Zealand Tahr Foundation to help them fight the government’s plan in court.

In total, we donated $420 to the Tahr Foundation Give A Little campaign.
